Individual Coverage Information
When insurance is being acquired by an individual or individuals, rather than sponsored by an employer for a group of employees, it is commonly referred to as “individual coverage”. These types of insurance ostensively mirror those available to employer sponsored groups and include the following:
- Medical
- Dental
- Vision
- Life
- Disability
- Long-term Care
- Retirement Planning Accounts
These plans often vary from those available in employer sponsored situations in that they generally are fully underwritten whereas the employer sponsored plans may not be. Additionally, plan pricing and benefits may favor the group plans in that they take into consideration the “law of large numbers”, a phrase used to describe the economic and actuarial concept of greater risk-spreading.
